Youth Spelling Class

This is a LIVE class, which April McMurtrey teaches directly!

The Details!

Age:

April's spelling class is for children up to about age 13 who are able to read at least 5-sound words but who struggle with spelling.

Recordings:

Each class is recorded for students are unable to make the live class. Students may watch and learn from any previously recorded class at a time that is best for them. Participating with the recordings is almost like being in the class live and the learning can be just as impactful.

Day/Time:

April teaches the class LIVE twice per week via Zoom. Her Youth Spelling Class is taught live on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30pm-4:00pm PST. (You must adjust for your own time zone.)

Cost:

April's class is $49/month. (Yes! You read that right! Only $49/mo!)

Attendance:

Attendance in the LIVE class is completely optional. If the student is not able to make the LIVE class, they are welcome to view the recording at their leisure. Some students find that they are never able to attend the live class due to scheduling conflicts, but are still able to learn with the recordings just as if they were there live.

When to Start:

This class is designed to welcome new students at any time throughout the year. As soon as your child is enrolled, they are invited to join the next LIVE class. Our students learn a new spelling skill in almost every lesson. Therefore, your child can simply pick up the new skill, and move forward with the class. They are never truly behind.

Duration:

The spelling lessons are taught in a yearly loop, with one vowel being the focus of most months. Therefore, if your child joins in May, for instance, when the class is focusing on the vowel "E", and they missed "A" month, then they can simply stay in the class for the full year until "A" month loops back around. Or, they can simply watch the previous recordings! Students are welcome to stay in the class as long as desired.

Difficulty Level:

This class focuses on foundational spelling rules. It is designed for students who can read at least 5-sound words. The information they will learn will probably be unlike anything they have learned before. It is designed to MAKE SENSE. Your student will learn WHY words are spelled the way they are (not just told to memorize them.) The information they will learn is simple enough for young learners, yet challenging enough for older learners.

Combined Ages:

Though there will be a variety of ages in the class, they will never see one another because all videos and mics are off during the Zoom webinar. The only face the student will see will be the teacher's. This way, older students need not feel unsettled about younger students being in their class, and vice-versa. April's instruction will be appropriate for all ages.

Instruction:

The students in this class learn HOW to SPELL, not how to spell individual words. The spelling techniques taught will teach them how to spell ANY word - regardless of if they have seen the word before or not. Most of the words they will be practicing will be nonsense words. That way, they are not able to rely on prior memory or bad habits, but must rely on the spelling rules being taught.

Results:

Students in April's classes usually see results as soon as the very first lesson. This is because students are being taught NEW information in a SIMPLE way. April often asks students at the end of each class what they learned and how they are feeling - and the responses are almost always filled with exuberance, excitement and celebration! Students are thrilled that they CAN ACTUALLY SPELL, and that words are FINALLY becoming unlocked!
