Phonemic Awareness
Your child will begin learning how to identify, isolate and discern the smallest units of sound within a word. AN ESSENTIAL SKILL FOR READING SUCCESS!
Phonics!
Your child will learn how to identify, recall, and pronounce the 5 most common graphemes and phonemes in English print.
Conventions of Print!
Your child will learn what a word is, what a letter is, and their relationship to the spoken word and written text. They will also learn reading conventions such as reading from top to bottom and left to right.

Phonemic Awareness
It is imperative that phonemic awareness be established prior to—and developed throughout—any reading acquisition program. You will learn what phonemic awareness is and how to provide it!
The First 5 Graphemes
Many well-meaning teachers and parents inadvertently teach incorrect sounds of letters and digraphs, which makes decoding even more difficult for struggling readers! It is critical that the corrects sounds are taught. Your child will learn how to pronounce the TRUE sounds of the first 5 (most common) letters to eliminate future confusion.
Conventions of Print
For true reading readiness, your child must learn HOW to read - from the VERY beginning. They will learn foundational skills such as reading from top to bottom and left to right, as well as the correspondence between letters and sounds.
The First 5 Sight Words
Sight words must be taught in a completely different way than phonetically regular words! True sight words include ONLY those words which cannot be decoded using typical phonetic patterns, in the order an emerging reader would encounter them. Your child will learn to identify sight words as whole units which must not be decoded.
PLUS!.....We won't leave your student hanging after teaching just the first 5 letters and sight words!
Upon completion of this 5-week course, your child will be prepared to begin Lesson 1 in the full Learn Reading program and ensure solid reading success!
