FAQs

Is my child too young to be screened?

Screenings can be completed for children 6 years old and older. There is no maximum age.

How long will the screening take?

Screenings takes on average 30-45 minutes. The duration of your student's screening will be dependent on the number and duration of breaks they will need. April adjusts the screening duration to the needs of the student to achieve optimal results.

Can I give the screening results to my school?

You may present this report to your child's school. The screening done by April McMurtrey will determine whether or not the child fits the dyslexia profile. However, the results of this screening alone will not qualify them for special education services. An intelligence test will not be administered in this screening, which is required for a formal diagnosis of reading disorder or a learning disability.

When will I know the results?

April will tell you immediately after the screening if your child does or does not fit the dyslexia profile. Once she has analyzed the results of each of the screening tasks, she will tell you the severity of the dyslexia, if it is present. You will receive the full report within 2 weeks of the screening.
