FAQs
Is my child too young to be screened?
Screenings can be completed for children 6 years old and older. There is no maximum age.
How long will the screening take?
Dyslexia screenings takes on average 30 minutes. The duration of your student's screening will be dependent on the number and duration of breaks they will need. April adjusts the screening duration to the needs of the student to achieve optimal results.
Can I give the screening results to my school?
If you purchase the "Signature" or "Premium" screenings, you may present April's official, written report to your child's school. The screening done by April McMurtrey will determine whether or not the child fits the dyslexia profile. However, the results of this screening alone may not qualify them for special education services.
If you purchase the "Core" screening, your results will be delivered verbally, with a simply summary email. Those informal results should not be presented to a school to request formal accommodations. If that is your desire, you should purchase the "Signature" or "Premium" screening which comes with an official report.
When will I know the results?
April will tell you immediately after the screening if your child does or does not fit the dyslexia profile. Once she has analyzed the results of each of the screening tasks, she will tell you the severity of the dyslexia if it is present. If the "Signature" or "Premium" screenings were purchased, you should receive the full report within 3 business days of the screening.
